Supposedly taken from the HG GN Arms model manual:

I won't bother with the translation since I am lazy, but based on the Chinese
translation, a couple of questions are answered:

1) GN Arms lack GN Drive, so cannot really operate independent for long period
of time, hence Lasse didn't help out Setsuna until later.
2) TRANS-AM mode has a limit, and once it's passed, the Gundam will be in
"baseline" mode - just like Layzner after V-MAX in the sense it really cannot
do anything once the TRANS-AM mode came out.
3) GN Arms can be used by Gundams without Trans-AM mode - it's better with it
on because more GN particles can be used (the manual mentioned the main cannon
of GN Arms aren't powerful unless a GN drive is hooked up to it).

Currently, there are two GN Arms - one that Setsuna is "partner" with, the
other one will be with "Dynames".

So I guess Setsuna "read" the manual or guess that's what is going to happen :)
