It seems as though this list has revived, though one wonders how stable
it will be, and for how long.

Two of the messages I sent during the early part of the "down" period
seem to have vanished into the bit bucket. I'll probably repost them
tonite or tomorrow if they don't turn up.

Other peoples' messages were presumably lost as well. I'd be curious to
know what percentage of those were cross-posted to other lists, and
which ones. (I don't know how we could find out, though.)

If we can somehow determine that there's another list which most of
these discussants use (the internic's domain-policy is the most likely
candidate), then perhaps we can engineer a migration to that one, and
the IFWP chapter can be closed. This would also reduce the need for
cross-posting. I notice that many IFWP messages also go to OPEN-RSC
(which has a working civil-discourse policy), but that list's archives
are not published... a serious shortcoming given the consensus that
these discussions should be as transparent as possible.

I see Jay Fenello has suggested that ICANN form a list for the same
purpose. Sounds fine. If a new list can be constructed which has a civil
discourse policy and open archives, that would be a step forward.

However, the point should not be to proliferate new lists, but to
faciliate a more coherent discussion.

I am grateful to the hosts at AIM for providing a forum during the
course of these discussions, but I have the impression they wouldn't be
disappointed if the IFWP list finally closed.
