What we are witnessing is an alarming and rapid spiral out of control on the part of Ms. Dyson, Mr. Roberts and their ICANN creation. Ignoring all critical input, accepting only so-called "constructive" criticism, refusing transparent operational guidelines, Dyson/Roberts/ICANN/etc seem to be setting up some sort of permanent regime between them despite any and all oppsition and regardless of dissent. It is becoming clear to many participants that the only way to avoid the disaster impending - that is disintegration of ICANN under a flurry of resignations and in chaos - is an orderly process first disbanding and disempowering ICANN and, finally, holding what has been referred to as the "Wrap-Up" conferance to the original IFWP process that was derailed in the summer of 1998. Agreement is very close building upon the Higgs/Postel RFC, the contributions of the BWG, ORSC, Auerbach, Stefferud, myself, Sondow, Rony and many other individuals of good will. This agreement must be facilitated *not* suffocated. Despite the organized dissonance of ICANN the amassed participants in what have been alternately refered to as the DNS Wars or Wars of Internet Governance are close to consensus. It is only the minor segment of representatives who are backing ICANN who are in complete and seemingly irreconcilable dis-agreement. It is time to circumvent their objections and proceed as quickly as possible to the resolution all reasonable parties to this discussion have been so close to finding.
