Ms. Van Houweling- I see by your recent post (attachment #1) that you have not taken to heart my admonitions (#2) to prevent yourself from being used for undemocratic and illegal purposes . Why did you send your message regarding the post-Berlin organization of the NCDNHC to Educause? According to many people, including Mike Roberts himself, Educause is not involved directly in this process except as one among many non-commercial organizations all having a right to membership in the NCDNHC. In a public posting on Tue, 9 Feb 1999, Mike Roberts wrote: "My job at ICANN is to be the interim CEO who gets the company functioning in all its working aspects, under direction from the Board. I am not an advocate, and I am specifically not the author of any policies other than those adopted by the Board. If you see evidence to the contrary, please call me on it." and in a posting on Thu, 25 Feb 1999, Marilyn Cade wrote: "Mike Roberts has no existing relationship to Educause.", indicative of the general attempt, on the part of those who profit from Mike Robert's and the Board's partiality, to obfuscate the reality. Your post seems to reveal the opposite from what the above statements would lead us to believe, that is, it corroborates the truth that I tried to point out in my post of 5/4/99 (3, below), to the effect that Michael Roberts was not chosen as interim ICANN president because he is "not representative of any particular stakeholder group", as Joe Sims said under oath to the House, but for just the opposite reason, that is, to promote the interests of Educause, including the take-over of the Non-Commercial Domain Name Holders Constituency in collaboration with ISOC. On Sun, 2 May 1999, I asked Mr. Roberts how much more of this favoritism and prejudicial behavior he intended to subject the Internet community to: ............................................... Subject: How much more? From: Michael Sondow <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Michael Roberts <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, ICANN <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mr. Roberts- Your organization, EDUCAUSE, has come out in support of one of the constituency organizers, ISOC. Yet you are the President of the organization being formed, ICANN. Is this, to your way of thinking, a democratic process? Furthermore, your employee Molly Van Houweling has given ISOC a full website to itself, to spread its deceit and tyranny, like excluding individuals from the Non-Commercial Domain Name Holders Constituency. Is this blatant favoritism in the use of your website your idea of democracy? ............................................... Your recent posting, Ms. Van Houweling, about the post-Berlin organization of the NCDNHC suggests that Mr. Roberts will, with your assistance, subject us to yet more prejudice in regard to the contested Non-Commercial Domain Name Holders Constituency. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: Molly Shaffer Van Houweling <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: DNSO constituency update Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dear ICANN Non-Commercial Domain Name Holders Constituency organizers, FYI, today ICANN adopted the resolution pasted below. The Board is anxious to receive a consensus proposal for the non-commercial domain name holders constituency and we look forward to an update on your progress.
From: Michael Sondow <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: ICANN <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, Molly Van Houweling <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Ms. Van Houweling- Allowing people who do not belong to a constituency to fill its meeting room and disrupt its organizational process is not having "helped arrange meeting space for open meetings for all of the initial constituency groups". As an operative of the unelected board, you are manipulating a situation so as to favor the unqualified, uncredentialed usurpers of a constituency that the board created, the only one left through which the non-commercial users of the Internet can have an effective voice in the DNSO. The board has consistently used undemocratic tactics to deprive the users of the Internet a place in the new Internet governance authority. They have made no constituency for individuals, and are now conspiring with ISOC to remove even the non-commercial constituency from its rightful members. You, personally, have allowed yourself to be tricked into believing that you have the power to deny the non-commercial sector of the Internet a say in its future. This is obviously not going to happen, and you will at some point, when the non-commercial users of the Internet finally become aware of what is being done to them, be held accountable for excluding them from a place in this Internet Government. If you think clearly, you will see that I am right. You would do well, for your own sake, to consider very carefully what the eventual consequences of allowing yourself to be used for an unpopular and undemocratic purpose could be. And by the way, if you will stop doing things that you feel ashamed of, you can stop worrying about the people on this list reading your messages. >Molly Shaffer Van Houweling a écrit: > > We have helped arrange meeting space for open meetings for all of > the initial constituency groups. Date: Tue, 04 May 1999 00:19:07 -0400 From: Michael Sondow <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Joe Sims <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, ICANN <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mr. Sims- In the Supplemental Questions posed by the Joint Subcommittees on Basic Research and Technology, pursuant to the hearing on October 2, 1998, in which you were a witness, you were asked:" Please explain how ICANN's interim board was established." You replied: "...Dr. Postel concluded that the most likely way to create an interim board that could obtain consensus support was to seek out highly qualified people who were specifically not representatives of any particular stakeholder group." Are you unaware that Michael Roberts, the current President of ICANN and apparent leader and chief policy-maker of its board of directors, was a founding director of ISOC, as well as the director of Educause, which is supporting ISOC in its bid to dominate the Non-Commercial Domain Name Holders constituency of the DNSO? Could you tell us, please, in what way Mr. Roberts fulfills Jon Postel's and presumably your criterion for serving on the interim board of ICANN, that is, not being a representative of a particular stakeholder group?
