Perhaps weekly repors on the status of the root zone and various
whois servers might be in order. The latter is already occuring on
usenet.

In case people are still using the standard whois client unix
ships with that does not chase dow nregistrar whois entires
in com/not/org, go grab the client and associated outboard
file from

If anybody already has it you should grab a new copy of each.
The whois server table entry was wrong in the table[1] and
the software didn't work for register.com[2]




[1] It was listed as whois.aunic.au which is of course wrong, the
ontology of .au prohibits such a name so they said screwit and
got aunic.net which is a lovely bit of irony.

[2] Register.com's whois server barfed if it got name\r\n\r\n
whereas everybody elses didn't seem to mind. Both are fixed now.
