I've been watching the ICANN@Large membership numbers and I have some
concerns. Basically I'm wondering how many cemetaries went into building
the membership.
As of Aug 30 only 43% of the total @large applications for membership have
been verified. This is abnormal behaviour in an election
process. Normally a 43% attendance rate is excellent in the standard
political process. But it is very abnormal in these elections. One can
make an assumption that people who register for membership are interested
individuals who will proceed to verification. I simply assume the level
of voter apathy would by default be very low, the member having already
expressed their interest via the registration process.
At this rate I estimate that by the close of nominations - only 52% of
@large applicants will be registered. I've attached a dump of my excell
sheet below.
According to one of my sources code named "Deep Cunt" - ICANN is not happy
with the state of the union. It would seem they are being burried in
returned mail. I can account for at least 5000 bogus registrations - but
not 50000.
This election process has alot of bogus registrations. I personally am
voting under an alternate name. ICANN refused my original application for
membership - they said in their letter they were not sure that I existed
and wanted proof. So I proceeded to register three different people to
vote under. And I'm pleased to say not one of those phoney registrations
were ever challenged and I have my PIN numbers in hand.
And several IRC boys for sure got in at least 5000 registrations. Ye ol
political process of digging up the dead - or registering the
cemetary. We'll see how this all turns out.
