I've always hated the CD/DVD drive. The writable CD's seem to have a half-life of about two weeks, so I can't trust them and I'm constantly burning a new boot disk every time I need one.
Has anybody been able to live without such a drive? If I can boot from a USB or SD card, then I'd be much better off (in theory).
