As visibility into alternatives decreases due to the cloud, lets not
forget what your putting in the cloud is virtual machines. Virtual
machine hosting has been around for some time. Before all the cloud
stuff, which is basically the next evolution virtual machine hosting.

A step before you enter a cloud, or as they are maturing and
standardizing. Might be to opt toward basic virtual machine hosting. The
difference between hosting a virtual machine and a cloud containing
virtual machines is kinda blurry. But there are still many virtual
machine hosting providers that are not considered cloud providers or
offerings.

Several sponsors of Gentoo have been providing virtual machine hosting
for some years now. Its a bit more established than cloud stuff. Most
anyone can host a xen or vmware image, usually with minimal effort ;)
