Three topics that are likely to be recurring on list and as meetings topics are; Clouds, IPv6, and Virtualization.
The concepts are fairly straight forward. Implementation and migration can be a bit trickier, but surely feasibly without to much effort. However all have rather steep curves when it comes to security. Thus as these topics come up, we need to make sure to keep an eye out for and focus on security, not just the emerging technologies. Rarely do things start with security, thats usually an after thought and action taken after the fact to secure. Like clouds, now they exist, people are using them. Thus naturally its time now to look into securing them after the fact of utilization :) I am still locking down the virtualization phase. Not sure if I will look to switch to IPv6 before looking into building a cloud. Or if I will do cloud before IPv6. Things are running rather smoothly right now. Unless some major motivating factor presents itself. I have no motivation or need to migrate anything over to a third party cloud provider at this time. Probably look to have someone host my vms before doing that. Though I am still not to clear on vm hosting vs cloud hosting. What the difference really is ;) Cloud to me almost seems like a buzz word, web 2.0, etc. Almost seems like the technologies behind it have always existed, just in custom ways. Create a new vm instance on a mainframe or cluster is basically same as creating a new vm on a cloud. -- William L.
