One thing to state here, I do disagree that doing a rescue image "across
the wire" is challenging. Netbooting is cake, or using a recovery image
from other mediums, flash, vendor recovery medium, etc. Booting that is
not the problem, its the time to recovery and steps that become an
issue.

Thus my point still remains, if you can avoid having to use ANY rescue
anything, and can boot into / at least. Then use the systems own / to
rescue and recover the system. You are better off, and you can recover
much faster. Booting to any / other than that of the system, will
require more steps and time to recover the / of the system that is
experiencing problems.
