Knowing VI is like knowing how to rub 2 sticks together to make fire. No
matter where you are, you can make a fire. That is a great skill to have.

For me anyway, having emacs is like having a lighter handy.

Thats a very good point to make. Not to favor any one editor over the
other. But if you find yourself in a busybox environment or system, vi
might be your only option. A very minimal version of vi. Many times over
the years when I have had to use vi it was on a system that had no other
editor. Thus if you have to know one other than your favorite or
preferred editor. It really can't hurt to be familiar with vi at least a
little bit.

Android uses BusyBox and thus has vi. Emacs is not present, but they did
provide nano :)
