I just renewed the domain, turns out anyone can. I called and the registrar sent me a special link. But it was to a generic landing page for the site, and allowed for renewal. Though was a pretty shady looking page at first, till clicking the renew this domain link.
Still need to get in touch with Dan to make sure at least one or more members of the JaxLUG have access to the domain name account. Having access is some what moot short of changing information on file like DNS servers for the domain. Still will see about getting in touch with Dan, and if anyone is in contact with Dan. Please have him get in touch with me ASAP via email or phone, thanks! All should be back to normal in a few hours up to 24 hours. Thanks to Jess Hires for bringing this to my attention. Also to Chad Bailey for acquiring and securing jax-lug.org. We might see about having two domains at some point. Just in case we lose one or the other for any period of time. Though hopefully this is a one off occurrence not to be repeated. That said I had a client who this happened to one year. The very next year they lost their domain entirely. Why they renewed for a single year is beyond me. Given they almost lost the domain and had to pay AIT Domains a nasty $150 late renewal fee. Luckily Dotster did not charge that fee, just the costs of a single year to renew. Probably should have renewed a bit more than a year, but already contributing a decent amount to the lug between hosting, pizza, and my time to make sure we have meetings and such. :) -- William L.
