UNF is hosting a cybersecurity showcase the Oct. 19th - 21st and on the 21st
they are doing a capture the flag contest.

This can be solo or in teams with a maximum of 3 people per team. Does
anyone want to be on my team? I did SANS Netwars in March and came in 14th
out of like a 100 people. I am not saying I'm a badass by any means but it
was a lot of fun. I think, with some of the people in jaxlug, we can do
pretty good.

Also, two of our members will be presenting at this showcase, Johannes who
just did "IPv6 in an Hour" and Kevin Johnson, whom we are all eagerly
awaiting his Snort/Base presentation at some point :)

Check out the info from Robert Jones below and let me know if you're
interested in the CTF.

All,

As some of you are aware, our annual security awareness conference will be
in October this year in conjunction with the Cybersecurity Showcase at the
University of North Florida. The event is co-sponsored by InfraGard, UNF,
ISACA, and IIA and will be held October 19-21, 2011 at the University Center
off Kernan Blvd.

There are multiple tracks of presentations featuring the above-mentioned
groups, as well as speakers for the schools of Health, Business, and
Criminal Justice at UNF. At the moment, schedules have not been set for all
of the speakers, but some events are set and we need to get an idea of how
many of you might attend. A more formal registration will take place later.

On Wednesday, October 19, ISACA is hosting a full day of demonstrations by
SANS instructors Johannes Ullrich and Kevin Johnson. Johannes will discuss
packet analysis and Kevin will discuss web app hacking. CPE's will be
offered through ISACA and there will be a cost to attend, but I don't know
how much yet.

On Friday, October 21, InfraGard will host a Capture/Hack the Flag event.
UNF Computer Science Professor Layne Wallace will set up the network for
teams to attack. If you or someone you know would like to participate, let
me know. There will be a nominal charge for this event also. It's important
that you let me know as soon as possible so that enough space and parking
passes can be allocated for the event (in case this contest is moved to the
old AOL building; no passes are needed for the University Center).

There will also be speakers on a variety of security-related topics
throughout the day on Thursday and Friday that you may attend without
charge. A full schedule will be provided later.

Space has also been reserved for tables or booths if your company would like
to help underwrite the event. You can contact me or one of the other board
members for further details.

Thanks,

Robert Jones
