Running screen + irssi so I can connect and remain connected to irc.freenode.net (#jaxlug), SSH port forwarding.. Just to name a few.. I have several external shell sources that I use. It can be quite nice to have something on a public network thats not your home machine. Anyways... just a thought. About the BSD/jailed option, you can do something very similar with vserver/Linux.
