This was a few months back, but I did mention at one of the LUG meetings
about having to use GParted in order to be able to boot into the system.
Without it the only thing is a flashing white dash in the upper left hand
corner of the monitor.
Annoying, but not a cause for worry. At least both Mint Distros booted on
sdb and c.
Besides, the plan was to get rid of XP on sda and replace it.
After all this time reading about how so many distros are "Debian based",
or "based on Linux Debian", why not just run Debian?
The amount of documentation for this distro seems limitless and it appears
to have a good reputation with experienced Linux users.
The choice was Debian 6.0.5 with the intent of having it take over sda
totally.
Being still very new to Linux this was going to be a basic install.
The install seemed to go well, and once it was done, the system would boot
normally, and I would live happily ever after.
Wrong again!! (what else is new?)
The system still needs GParted to boot up. Without it there is still the
familiar flashing white dash.
After playing around with Debian for awhile, I booted into Mint on sdb to
finish a task there.
After some tense moments the system did boot, but only after the flashing
white dash.
But just before it booted the words in yellow appeared in the upper left
hand corner of the monitor,"broke pipeline".
Strange!
