Well, first thing you want to do it ping the dns name to see if it matches your IP you used. It should not matter if you use a domain name or IP address.

Hi pfsense community -

I successfully setup my first PPTP vpn with pfsense. I have it configured so I can connect in via an ip address externally and it works great. But if I try to use a DNS alias for connecting, it does not work.

So for example:
My External IP address: 10.10.1.10
My External DNS alias for said IP address: vpn.mycompany.com <http://vpn.mycompany.com>

Using 10.10.1.10 works for the PPTP vpn, but using vpn.mycompany.com <http://vpn.mycompany.com> does not. Any ideas on things I need to do to enable this? Is it a needed entry in the aliases section of the firewall tab in pfsense?

Thanks for the help!
