Hi all,

The web standards group membership has just crossed the 5,000 mark.

It seems we have come a long way. Our first meeting was held on 6 March 2003
in a pub in Sydney with 8 people. We currently have 5,009 members from 109
countries. We also have meetings in a range of cities including Sydney,
Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane (though very quiet for the last 6 months),
Wellington, London, Singapore and Moscow - with more to come in the next few
months.

So, to celebrate this milestone, the WSG has decided to present our 5,000th
member with a prize - a range of books generously donated by SitePoint:

The Principles of Beautiful Web Design:

The CSS Anthology, 2nd Edition:

So who is the winner? Michael Riethmuller from the Australian Bureau of
Statistics, Canberra (Australia) joined the Web Standards Group on Friday
afternoon - becoming our 5,000th member. Congratulations Michael!

Finally, a huge thank you to SitePoint (http://www.sitepoint.com) for their
generous donation. SitePoint specializes in publishing fun, practical, and
easy-to-understand content for web professionals. Its popular online
magazine, blogs, newsletters, and print books teach best practices to web
developers and designers worldwide.

Thanks
Russ
