Since Exchange 2010, the preferred architecture says that you put logs and
databases on the same volume, but no more than 4 per physical disk.

It's a complicated question. Much more so than it seems. Few small and medium
sized companies deploy according to the preferred architecture.

The right answer is to plan your deployment according to the Mailbox Calculator
and then to test your deployment using JetStress.

Subject: [Exchange] Log Files & DB on HyperV

Hi all,

I'm cross-posting this because despite it being for Exchange, it does pertain
Windows as well.

Back in the physical days , it was always OS, LogFiles, and DB on separate
disks/volumes/arrays etc..
Now with virtulization, is it still recommended /best practice to create
separate VHD's for the OS/DB/Log files for performance gain?

TIA
