I checked with our MS Rep and maybe it is the type of Licensing we have, but we
are Licensed to use either Office365 ProPlus or we can use Office 2013.

Office 365 licensing gives users rights to install Office 365 on up to 5
devices. That’s what you get for your $$$$$.

I am confused. What does O365 ProPlus give you that Office 2013 does not? I
was always under the assumption and we actually have Office 365 and are using
Office 2013 with Lync and OneDrive on our desktops. I thought O365 Plus
version was just the ability for updates you get. So if MS rolls out O365 2016
Version, it would either Auto-Update all your desktops or you would have the
ability to choose to update all your ProPlus machines. I didn’t think there
was any features/benefits between the two. I might be wrong.

We opened a ticket with MS and they told us there was no way to “convert” our
current O2013 ProPlus install to O365 ProPlus… our only option was to
uninstall/install. My vote was to continue using O2013 but management felt like
we might be missing out new features by not having O365. Feel free to give me
information ammo to help me to change their mind ☺

Why do you have to uninstall and install Office365? You can use Office 2013
with Office 365, only if you want the ProPlus version and if that’s the case
you can just wait till Office 2016 Pro Plus and do it then.

Just curious, what other gripes do you have with moving your licensing to 365?

We’re getting ready to transition from Office 2013 to Office 365.
Unfortunately, we just finished our Office 2013 rollout back in June too – so
now we have to uninstall 2013 and install O365… should be a fun process...

BTW….It’s also unsupported to run mixed versions of Office on the same PC. So
you won’t be able to use Visio 2013 with Office 2016. I am SOOOOO regretting
moving our licensing from traditional Office to Office 365!!!

It’ll be sharing some common files with the Office 2013 already on the disk I
guess, which is not supported:

Side-by-side installations of MSI and Click-to-Run versions of Office 2013 are
not supported
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2753630

So from the looks of it, you’d need to use the MSI installer for Skype for
Business for these guys, or swap their Office 2013 to using Office 365 ProPlus
(click-to-run). You can’t mix. Same problem with people already running Project
2013 and Visio 2013 on their machines.

Wondering if the new (Office 2016) version of Office 365 ProPlus will allow
this though, since they might not share those common files.

Is anyone else using the click to run installer to deploy Skype for Business to
machines that have Office 2013 installed already using the legacy (not click to
run) installer? If so are you seeing this error in Outlook after installing
skype?
