Thanks Nick that’ll work nicely.

Could someone help clarify this bit of text that’s mentioned in the article:

Expired updates still show up in the console, but they are marked as expired,
and have the following icon showing this state: They will remain in the
console for 7 days following expiration, where the next process around cleanup
starts.
After 7 days, expired updates that are not associated with active deployments,
are tomb-stoned. This means they are no longer visible in the UI.
So I have a bunch of updates sitting in software update packages that are
expired and not deployed but they’ve been sitting there forever. So is it the
case that when it says expired updates not associated with active deployments
are tomb stoned, is the definition of an “active deployment” an update not
associated with a SUG or software update package?

If that’s the case I assume for those updates I can just delete them out of the
packages, wait for ConfigMgr to remove the updates from DPs and then I can run
the script in that article to clean up the data source.

Daniel.

Clean up script is at the bottom of this blog post.

Oh, and here is one that I wrote. I gave instructions on how to make this run

Microsoft has a script for it in their technet blogs. I can find it when I'm
work tomorrow as I have used it before.

In the third instalment of my software updates threads I want to ask about
cleaning up packages of updates that are not deployed ☺

Basically due to ADRs with criteria that is too broad I end up with SUGs being
created that contain many updates that are not needed. While they’re removed
from the SUG they remain in the updates package(s) and to minimise space I want
to remove updates sitting in packages that aren’t deployed. I thought it’d be
as simple as searching these packages for updates that aren’t deployed and
deleting them but in the past I’ve had poor success with this and the packages
become corrupt and cause all sorts of headaches. I just want to verify my
process is correct.

Daniel.
