App locker blocks them from running – not displaying. The custom start menu layout presumes that all machines are loaded with the same software with the same shortcuts wanted in the start menu doesn’t it?
Thinking that there is only 18 months do go before end of life on Windows 7 (for currently shipping computers) is not exactly comforting when Microsoft still doesn’t have the update released 2 months ago working well. Much easier in my mind as they keep changing the content so you keep having to update the PowerShell script that removes them. The only changes my upgrade task sequence is doing is fixing default file type associations and if there upgrading from Windows 7 or 8.1 its importing a custom start menu layout file. You just cannot customize the upgrade .wim. With an upgrade task sequence you can still customize your start menu, remove unwanted apps, install or remove programs, etc. Cortana has support for several regions and languages now, I don’t know about base OS support. I’m excited for the Office365 support for Cortana to get to Outlook.
