Yes, add those on the 'Name Servers' tab of the child domain zone when you are 
pointed at one of the root DCs.

Returned records:
@ 3600 NS rootDC#5

Same result, no matter what root DC I specify (4,5 or 6).

Yeah, I don't see a returned entry that specifies any child DC. Only for one of 
the root DCs.
