I would recommend switching over to a SQL backup task instead. Especially if
you have plans to move to SCCM 1511.

How?

If you mean the ConfigMgr built in Site Maintenance -> Backup Site Server task,
yes, this has caused large distribution failures for me. Disable the task,
redistribute, after the package gets to all of your DPs successfully, it will
be safe to re-enable the task again.

Could a scheduled nightly backup of the site DB cause a problem with apps
distributing? I seem to recall we had this issue before, and it turned out to
be the DB backup killing the distribution and causing it to restart. Though,
in this case its more of a failure instead of a retry.

I don't think so, I've had some really big CAD packages back in 2003 and 2007
days and had no issues.

I have an SCCM hierarchy with a CAS and four primary sites. We have a big app
(20GB) that has been distributed to all the DP's in our Europe primary site,
but it fails when trying to distribute to DP's in the North America primary
site. The status messages say the DP's may be out of space, but I've checked
them and that is not the case.

Is there a max supported size for applications? Maybe an IIS setting that
needs to be tweaked for content this large?
