David,

I've had this issue before with a 3020 and using drivers from Dell. The cab I
had loaded had a bad driver. What you might try doing is having loaded only
the NIC drivers loaded in your profile and then firing off a test machine. If
it boots into Windows and proceeds, then that would lend me to believe that
there is an issue with the chipset drivers or something similar causing it not
to be able to boot into the OS.

Thanks, but this seems not to be my issue; I cannot get the system to even boot
in Safe Mode - there is a problem somewhere related to critical boot drivers /
boot environment when imaging from MDT.

I can install the OS manually directly from DVD (native, unmodified Volume
License version downloaded directly from Microsoft) and then install all of the
hardware drivers; I actually have done that and then copied the resulting
drivers from the DriverStore\FileRepository and put those in the MDT Out-of-Box
Drivers (after first deleting the Dell CAB drivers) but that did not help.

I had a similar issue with the Dell Optiplex 3020. The above link solved it for
me. I know you stated you had a 3040, but it might be a similar issue or lead
you down a similar path. Hope this helps.

Subject: [MDT-OSD] Dell Optiplex 3040

I am struggling with getting Windows 7 deployed to the Dell Optiplex 3040 using
MDT 2013 Update 2. After the OS is applied and the system reboots, it fails
booting to Windows. I am using driver selection profiles to inject
model-specific drivers, and I imported all of the drivers from the Dell
TechCenter CAB for the 3040 / W7x86. I also manually extracted and imported
the Intel Rapid Storage F6 drivers. I have added the 2 hotfixes (KB2990941 and
KB3087873) that Microsoft lists as needed for deploying Win7 to Skylake / NVMe
storage to the Packages group.

Any ideas as to what I am missing?

Thanks,

David
