To decompose this thread a little more... A DC breaker is a safety device. A DC disconnect is a switch.
It is similar to the old machinst adage "You can drill on a mill, but you shouldn't mill on a drill." I had an site that regularly used a circuit breaker as a switch. It failed prematurely because it was not designed for that application. Can you use a breaker as a switch? Sure, but do not expect normal service lifetime or correct operation as it is being used outside the design specifications. I had a mobile x-ray machine (geez I wished I had the motors from that thing for an EM) that only had fuses in the battery string. To DC disconnect we removed the battery leads from junction points. -=Doug ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Blamey To: ElectricMotorcycles Sent: Sunday, March 25, 2007 10:27 AM Subject: Re: [ElectricMotorcycles] eBay: Airpax 150 Amp 80 Volt DCCircuit Breaker A dc disconnect is a positive shut-off with contacts meant to make/break large current, a breaker could become stuck (or unreliable as a shut-off) and with the current these batteries hold, watch out!
