Anyone in this group know the history of Ford's Edsel. The following is an 
excerpt from wikipedia regarding the Edsel's failure:
 
"Perhaps the most important factor in the Edsel's failure, however, was that 
when the car was introduced, the U.S. was entering a period of _recession_ 
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recession) . Sales for all car manufacturers, 
even 
those not introducing new models, were down; consumers entered a period of 
preferring less expensive, more _fuel-efficient_ 
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_efficiency)  automobiles."
 
Perhaps GM is attempting to build a real lousy EVs and Hybrids so that they 
can go back to their old ways and say (to themselves and perhaps the public) 
"we tried again and failed again".
