OK, here comes the real answer:
1. not true - current version allows XP, and previous version had a workaround:
http://fernandof.wordpress.com/
2. Support coming: v1.2 due in June.
3. Support coming: v1.2 due in June.
4. This is true for all extensions projects. This is why my codeplex projects
and all else never use extensions. But then again, I don’t need extensions,
because I know what I am doing.
5. response from Andrew Connel: not fair. It took a long while to get CLR into
SQL, and sharepoint was there first. Relax and wait for the future.

Subject: Re: [OzMOSS] WSS 3.0 Tools: VS 2005 Extension for 64bit

Let me make sure I have this straight:

WSS 3.0 extensions for VS:
1. Do not work on the most common developer platform (XP Sp2)
2. Do not work on the most commonly deployed server platform (server
2003 R2 X64) meaning that ACTUAL integration testing on a known
platform CANNOT happen
3. Do not work with MS's newest development platform (VS2008),
despite it being out for a while and the SDK has been available for
MONTHS (and most 3rd party plugins have updated...)
4. Prevents you from even OPENING projects if you don't have it
installed (which you can't install it on 1/2/3 above), even if it had
the deploy options disabled...

And to add, while I'm ranting

5. WSS 3.0 still does not support WCF in any meaningful way
(consumption or provision of services)

Has anyone thought of introducing the right hand to the left hand?
