Bill, what grade would you see the Book Thief appropriate for?

I picked up the Book Thief at Heathrow Airport on my way back to the U.S.
I
didn't realize it was a teen book until I looked it up after I finished
reading it. I enjoyed the novel but since I teach 5th grade I don't think
it's appropriate for my students so I plan to recommend it to my middle
school Humanities colleagues. Another title caught my eye when browsing a
local bookstore this summer. The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing,
Traitor to the Nation, Vol. 1: The Pox Party is an interesting read, but
like The Book Thief, but it's very intense. I can see a lot of
provocative,
rich discussions emerging from these two novels.
