AS the dogs and I came in this morning form out walk, “Tony Brown’s Journal”
was playing on the TV. The fellow speaking immediately caught my attention—I
sat down to listen. I only heard the final ten minutes or so, but I wish I’d
heard the whole program. The man was Rudy Crew, super of the Miami-Dade County
schools. Is he “for real”? He was saying things I’ve thought for several
years now, since returning to Little Rock. I looked on the internet, and “Tony
Brown’s Journal” plays at different times around the country on PBS stations.
I hope you can catch it later today—you’ll find yourself having a conversation
with the TV screen. Has anyone read Dr. Crew’s new book? Here’s the TV
listing for the “Tony Brown’s Journal” week of Oct. 7:
“Dr. Rudy Crew, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, discusses
public education in America, the subject of his book, "Only Connect: The Way to
Save Our Schools."”

Some of you on the list who have worked in NYC or Miami under this man’s
superintendency, what’s your take?. After ten minutes, I want to apply for a
job in Miami!
