I remain unconvinced here..
Logically, that argument could extend to user interfaces of software, the look and feel of all manuals, etc There is a balance to be struck between building a distribution and drawing on the strengths of projects

As yet, we don't have a policy on including white papers in OSGeo-Live, and this close to a release we probably shouldn't change the status-quo.

However,
For future releases, I suggest that we should not be including white papers unless they are all written in a consistent manner. I feel that the greatest value of OSGeo-Live is the impression of quality that we bring when demonstrating our Open Source projects. Part of this impression is achieved through the attention to detail over things like consistency in documentation. To achieve consistency in white paper write ups will be a significant amount of work, and as such, I suggest that we should not tackle that problem yet. What we can do consistently is provide links to external resources like white papers.

Whitepapers are relatively tiny.. How many are we talking about?
also, they are human-oriented, condensations of overview and intent

I suggest they are a clear win in disk space vs. value
Perhaps we could call upon the list again
and make the few tens of megabytes of space needed to hold these valuable resources

As we are getting short on disk space, I suggest that we should not download pdf white papers, but rather reference the url on the web.
