Hi Alex,
Part of the original proposal for OSGeoLive PPA was the update process to
be handled by that, so that a breakage in UbuntuGIS (happens some times)
would not affect the Live.
Yes, we are not doing updates for 12.04... but we could if we wanted/had
time.
We are still using UbuntuGIS as upstream, it is just an extra layer of
security. All distributions do similar sandboxing between development and
release repositories...
