Okay, you are right. I just asked the projects that clearly stated a
specific tomcat version. I assumed that the projects that state as
dependency "tomcat" are okay with updating to the latest tomcat version.
Yes, projects should specify requirements with more details.
The full list of tomcat dependent projects:
- 52nWPS: just checked with Benjamin
- 52nSOS: okay
- deegree: ???
- ncwms: ???
- rasdaman: dependency is just updated (12:00 CEST) to tomcat7
Regarding deegree, it uses an internal tomcat, so it is not affected by
default tomcat.
By the way, I already prepared a PR which updates everything regarding
tomcat6 -> tomcat7 in the OSGeoLive repository:

Thanks for the PR, I will review.
We should add an issue to OSGeoLive-doc if this PR is accepted and
merged to update all documentation that refers to tomcat6 in any command.

We might change it's name to install_tomcat.sh and define that installs
the latest available tomcat from ubuntu packages for the currently used
