Try wrapping the heat source with insulation. Trap the heat in the machinery before it "gets loose" and let the cooling system take care of the excess heat as it is designed to do.
Radiant heat and hot air transferring heat: Radiant heat, use shiny baffles; hot air, use exhaust fan(s). Caulk well. Sound travels through small gaps as easily as water. By having a sound source inside a cabin, water leaks can be found with a stethoscope searching for sound outside the space. Hope this helps... Norm S/V Bandersnatch Lying Julington Creek FL 30 07.72N 081 38.4W > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm also looking for something for the engine compartment. My problem is heat however. The design is not great. The heat exchanger is located on the side of the engine that is nearest to the refer box. After the engine runs for a while the inside of the box is quite warm as is the counter top between the engine and the refer. It's a top loading box and even the lid gets warm. I'm pretty sure that it is due to conduction. It has about 1" of a black insulation a lot like the insulation in the engine compartment of my diesel van complete with a layer of reflective foil. I think it is primarily for sound insulation but I don't know about heat. I can't see the construction of the box so I don't know if it has adequate insulation, so I'm going to have to try to prevent the heat from migrating out of the engine compartment. I'm installing a series of muffin fans in the engine compartment to get the hot air out, but I'm thinking that radiant heat might be causing the side of the engine compartment to heat. Any suggestions for insulation/cooling/etc.? There's not a lot of room between the engine and the wall. Thanks, Jim. _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
