It sounds like a bad solenoid or a starter motor problem. It takes a long time for an engine to get stuck unless it seizes while running out of oil. Try to pull the starter out and bench test it with jumper cables. It maybe just the bendix stuck on the flywheel. That would mean a bad starter motor.
