Couldn't agree more.

If you consider a radio VHF or otherwise to provide quick response, good
luck.

A reporting tool, maybe.

I have found the VHF radio for the most part to be about as useful as a
set of breasts on a boar hog.

You would be amazed how many blind spots there are on the Great Lakes.

I found the only radio that was really useful was the AM/FM for tunes,
NPR and CBC.

Makes 2 of us.

Careful, people will get us confused.<grin>

Amen brother.

I reminded of a conversation I had with Glen Yarbourgh of LimeLiters
fame and an avid cruising sailor.

Didn't carry an Epirb, didn't carry an emergency life raft.

When I pursed the issue with him, he explained that if he chose to go
into harms way, that was his decision, but he would not ask others to go
in harms way to try to rescue him if he got in trouble.

I understood.

The Coast Guard is not a water based AAA.

There is no AAA at sea.

You are on your own.

Isn't that one of the basic reasons you go to sea in the in the first
place?
