A few weeks ago on TV there was a show that claimed that the Danes were the happiest people on earth. I also heard the Danes have the highest incidence of heart disease due to their high fat (especially dairy) diet. Ask your Danish friend about that. I have a Danish CP propeller made in Hundestead that has performed perfectly for 30K miles. I love it. Was it to be taken as.......well I might be American but you Danes are FAT. It may just be my understanding of American English that is lacking I hope so Ha, Yes it is true that Danes are very happy people. They live a relatively carefree life as regards to survival and social issues. They pay about 40 % taxes but get quite a bit for those 40 %. Free School up to University level. After 12 years of school anyone can study through College and University being paid by the Government each month about 1500 USD. In addition to this they get subsidized housing. We have free medical system for everybody, very high standard compared to USA, free Dentist for children till the Age of 18. A system of work insurance so if you get laid off the Govt will pay you and activate you in various jobs that need to be done, city cleaning or whatever, no free lunch though, you are expected to work. Hardly any unemployment less than 1/2 % last I remember. We have no foreign debth, but generally take pride in living in a balanced budget. Most Danes take interest in political life and vote and are active in the public debate. Hardly any crime, due to strict gun laws but lately we have had a very difficult time integrating the Muslim immigrants, and a lot of problems have arises with this segment of the population only 100.000 out of 5 million committing 80 % of violent crime in the country. Still it is safe and anyone can walk through the city of Copenhagen at any time of the day of night and never feel threatened We are not a socialist country, neither is Sweden or Norway. Scandinavia is a Constitutional Democracy, and the party in power at the moment, are actually Conservative, much like the Republicans. So yea we are a pretty happy bunch, love to party, eat drink and have a good time, very liberal and very educated with almost about 2 computers per household. Most Danes speak several languages fluently, I speak 5 it is not unusual to speak 6 or 7. I just looked up the heart stats and we are number 8 per capita, that surprised me, I wonder if there are other reasons than the fat, I am interested and will look into it. On an average I would say that Americans are WAY fatter, no offence. Most Danes bicycle to work and have a much more active lifestyle. Cars are exorbitant, a Mercedes 300 will cost 200.000 USD (yes 2000.000) but the public transport system is very effective Busses and trains sub ways everywhere.
