My Perkins 4-107 managed to eat its way through a steel exhaust coupler
- the water part of the wet exhaust flooded the engine room enough to
float the coolant overflow jug into the pulley, causing the most blood
curdling screeching you can imagine. Quite exciting.

The exhaust hose is looking pretty tired (35 years), and since I have to
take apart so much to get to the coupling, I'm going to replace the hose
too. But I noticed that the the first part of the hose is a different
size, smaller. There is about six feet of 2-inch, from the engine to an
elbow, at the high point, then 2 5/8 for twenty feet, out the transom.
Is there some reason for this? It's more than a ยต - difference, and
less than a M-difference  :>}

Arild, I see you are posting - where are you??

Steve
