Dawn might be a bit early, but the entry is quite easy - we left Angelfish
Creek at 3 am and arrived in Bimini about 12 noon - straight motor, the Gulf
was as flat and calm as this screen your looking at - while, like this screen
usually is, unless someone is cranky, lol.
Six feet is no problem coming into Bimini - as for uncharted, there are new
channel markers not on some charts for the marina on the outside - can't
remember the name, but the channel is 12 feet - when you come to the end, just
hang a left and watch for shoaling on your port side as you come in. It's
pretty clear.
As for where to dock - you can either anchor out and dinghy in, or tie up at
the big government dock, a concrete one, it's pretty clear which it is - if
you're going to tie up for the night, just pull into your marina - Blue Water
is nice, not expensive, excellent RO water as well, pool, nice showers.
If you anchor out in front of Blue Water, there is a shallow patch, past the
marina entrance. Best spot to anchor is straight out from the entrance, and a
bit, um....west I guess, but to the right facing the marina, so as to keep
clear of de mail boat when she docks at the government dock.
One caution - if the wind is from the channel, the government dock is VERY
difficult to get off of, since you have to tie up inside the L, and have the
wind on your beam.
Wally
s/v Gypsy Wind
now lying Deltaville, too MUCH wind to head down the bay - why does the wind
always blow from where you're headed? Is it TOO much to ask for a following
wind of less than gale force just ONCE in a sailor's lifetime? Huh?
Thanks to both of you for the insight. Depending on the wind, we're
still on for Weds. PM and it looks like Bimini is the easiest. Will a
dawn arrival be too soon (coral-head/depth spotting with sun in front
of us)?
With a 6+ draft, what do I need to watch out for which might not be
charted? And, for that matter, I'm not readily able to see from the
charts where it is I actually go to check in, as there is a lot of
what looks to be uninhabited land, and some unknown,
not-looking-like-marine-facility stuff otherwise...
