Hi Sam,
Thank you.
I looked at all the pretty pictures and the verbiage in the Inverter
Inefficiency section and concluded the author is not being fair to the Inverter
manufacturer. Arild, Norm, Andina or another electrical person on the list can
explain why.
Assuming the DC bus was 12.5Volts and assuming the TV input power stays the
same whether powered from AC or DC, the 67.2% inverter efficiency is not bad at
all considering it is operating at less than 5% of rated full load. The 90%
efficiency which is almost too good to be true is generally advertised at a
load where the efficiency peaks, which is typically around 80% load.
What the author very accurately measured is what it costs him to power the TV
through the Inverter instead of using the TV directly, and that is 23.75Watt
hours. Anyway ask me or the other electrical guys if you are interested in the
details.
If you don't cae, open a cold one and watch the show at 50Watt hours per hour
or 72Watt hours per hour.
Don't forget, in winter the system is 100% efficient because the extra power is
not wasted, it is used to keep you warm :-)
All the best
Ahmet
