Typically, everyone stops at Great Sale Cay & Mangrove Cay. There is a spot
just N of Old Bahama Bay marina, protection is minimal, but if weather got
bad you could go inside, unless a W wind closes the entrance. In bad
weather, they discount by forgiving the mandatory water fee.
Some cruisers just go N from Marsh HBR or Carter/Double brested areas.
If you are going to Nassau, Eleuthera, Spanish Wells, Freeport or Marsh
Harbor there are big stores including fresh meat. In West End there are
only small stores, (walking or borrow free marina bike) but you can get good
basic supplies and the prices were not too bad. There is a lady in Customs
at the marina who brings in fresh bread if you pre order. Actually, once you
are this far, you won't need much food. There is fuel at the marina. Last
time I was there the marina "fresh" water was salty (possibly a breakdown),
Eleuthera and Spanish Wells also have bad water. No need to check out of
Bahamas, in theory, you mail cruising permit back, once you are sure you
made it to states.
