Hi everyone,

Sue and I had to withdraw from the list in January while we
were cruising down the "thorny path" to get to paradise.

Sue and I have gotten our Catalac 41 Catamaran down to
Hugo Ch*vz land, and are currently living at anchor in
the harbor of Porlamar, Isla Margarita... We are just 12
miles from the north shore of South Ameria and can see
the Mountains from our boat.

Though I have corresponded with some list members in the
mean time with a newsletter we put out, we have missed
hearing from many who are online. I solved my old problem
of getting my mail box so overloaded that it bounced my good
mail by signing up for SPAM ARREST. It weeds all the junk
mail out of your box by challenging anyone who is not in your
mail list to read a number letter box combination.

We are happy to be back as I had been a member of the
liveaboard list since the mid-90s and had never had to
cancel till January. Then I could not get signed up.

Our course coming down is as follows:

This marks our 14th major stop on the cruise since last December
when we left the US en-route for here.

Our path since leaving the US:

Bahama Islands (Bimini, Nassau, Exumas Chain, Mayaguana),
Turks & Caicos Islands (Caicos)
Dominican Republic
Puerto Rico (Mayaguez & Ponce)
St Thomas (US) & St. Johns (US)
British Virgin Islands (Tortolla, Virgin Gorda, Norman Island)
St. Martin (FR) & Sint Maartin (Dutch Antilles)
St. Christophers (aka St. Kitts)
Montserrat
Guadeloupe (FR)
Martinique (FR) (St Pierre, Le Marin, St. Anne)
St. Lucia
Bequia
Carriacou
Grenada
Isla Margarita

We were concerned about the lack of law enforcement at
Venezuelan ports, but have taken precautions, and just before
leaving Grenada got word of a notice sent out by the US and
Great Britain advising citizens of Trinidad and Tobago having
become the murder capitol of the Caribbean. Those countries
appear to have lost control of crime as well, so we felt no worse
coming here.

We have several self defense articles, but the most novel is one
of the ideas I got on this list many many years ago, of someone
who was going to have a fire extinguisher filled with hot cayenne
pepper. We now have a special fire extinguisher and would be
a match for any unarmed intruders with that and our flare launchers
which are deadly at close range. We expect never to have to
use any defense as there is not that big of a problem, in my
estimation... though its as dangerous as being in the wrong
place at the wrong time in many US cities.
