As for weight. Our dinghy weights in at around 300 lbs all up. It is a bear to drag off a beach, however we very seldom do so. Perhaps if we visited the Bahamas we would want a lighter rig.
If we did, I could see that a light dinghy would be more useful. There are retractable wheels available designed to lower and support the heavy stern of a dinghy such as ours when beaching but I don't know how well they work. And then there is also the flying dinghy...
