Lee,
Think of this mattress as a giant sponge. Think about it long and hard.
Imagine wring out this sponge. Think about drying it. Imagine yourself
and your mate wringing out this VERY HEAVY soapy sponge. Consider
carrying it to a place where it can be dried out, rinsed out, (it now
weighs MANY pounds). Think about the multiple rinses, the many days of
drying in the (hopefully no rain and dry days) sun.
Then think about buying a new mattress.
We successfully washed and rinsed out our double size foam mattress-
unless it were very new, or there were no other choices - we would not
do it again.

HOWEVER: If you have a large area, the ability to cover the mattress if
needed and lots of (soft) fresh water - give it a try. A heavy roller
(Big oxygen bottle?)would be helpful to squeeze out the rinsing water.
A swimming pool might be a good place to wash it. It all depends.

Put on your swim trunks and give it a go! Easy on the soap though.
