St Augistine is my least favorite inlet. I have been in and out half a
dozen times. Your depth sounder may not work because of the turbulence,
giving you false readings all over the map. When you are bouncing
around on the swells the ATONs do not appear to have any clear pattern
and can be confusing. The inlet channel shifts and changes. Fall,
Winter and Spring are the times of greatest change. In Winter and Spring
it hooks toward the South, in Summer, North. What was good last month
may not be so after a strong blow or a Hurricane passes off shore. I
lived there for ten years - my "local knowledge" would be: avoid it in
a blow and when the current is running fast, there are better inlets to
the north and south, In calm weather follow a loaded shrimper and don't
cut any corners.

Could be I am overly cautious, (I came close to winding up in the surf
once - not in St A), but it's a place where you can get into trouble
fast.

There is no sense in having a plan if you're not going to pretend to follow it.
