Having made the trip into the Bays of Fundy and St. Marys a number of times (I 
have family in Weymouth, NS), I think it's worth it if you are primarily 
interested in sailing history (Joshua Slocum was from Briar Island) and some 
spectacular scenery (when the fog is out).  On the other hand, tying up to 
fixed concrete government piers with 37 foot tides can be challenging.  Grand 
Manan is a treat.  If you have the time, I would recommend the detour, 
especially if you want to do the Passamaquoddy(? sp) anyway.
