Your hint sets CFLAGS, wheras the LFS book specifically says that CFLAGS causes problems when building binutils, glibc and a few other packages. Did you not encounter any compile errors?
Glibc testsuite fails on math tests, due to very minor (in fact ignorable) differences between the computed and exact values of Bessel functions. That's all.
