I've just changed Preferences > Playback > Preview Quality to Low, and
enabled Show FPS statistics.
I runned several times for 15 seconds each:
* when there's no effect enabled, average FPS was 5.9.
* with negated enabled, average FPS was 12.4.
* with textfun enabled, average FPS was 9.3
