OK, we will need to reproduce the steps that LiVES does on startup.

Can you try the following, open a terminal window, and from the command
line, type:

   smogrify report test

then hit enter.  Then:

   echo $?

hit enter again. Then finally,

   ls -l ~/.lives


Please let me know what happens.
