lives-user: I've been using Lives occasionally for a few years now, primarily on Debian "stable". While lack of crashing is a good thing, being many revisions behind on Lives and all that it requires is not. Notably codec available, quality, and robustness in the face of the unexpected.
Which GNU/ Linux distributions have recent versions of common multimedia applications, and support them well -- Lives, Handbrake, Audacity, Rosegarden, etc.? Is there a canonical GNU/ Linux distribution for Lives?
