The C++ API is definitely the way to go if you are going to integrate this into 
a plug-in.

I believe it works if you compile it with VS2012 or VS2013. 

It will be able to debug the remote targets, but native windows debugging isn't 
supported unless you are running things generated by clang, gcc or other open 
source compilers. Microsoft has a proprietary PDB format that contains the 
debug info that would be hard to support since there are no documents that 
describe it (none that I know of).
